This image is from the 2023 Bird Week Australia Exhibition “From the ground up”, where Angela explores explores the crucial connection between birds and trees.

This is Opal & Yeti, Yellow-tailed black cockatoos who are ambassadors for their species at Kaarakin Black Cockatoo sanctuary in Perth.

The background trees and ground cover show some of their favourite foods which range from exotic pines to native gum nuts & seeds.

Black cockatoos are incidental dispersers of plant seed, they do this by removing from the mother tree, carrying the seeds to distant perches for handling and/or dropping them while flying.

Black cockatoos nest in large hollows high in old growth native trees.
