This image is from the 2023 Bird Week Australia Exhibition “From the ground up”, where Angela explores explores the crucial connection between birds and trees.

These doves are important seed dispersers for trees, because they can fly over large distances, fruit is a major part of their diet, and seeds pass through their digestive systems unharmed.

The Rose-crowned Fruit Dove is listed as vulnerable in New South Wales, with threats including: rainforest clearing and fragmentation, logging, weeds and increased fire regimes altering habitat, and the removal of Camphor Laurel, an introduced tree that has become an important food source, without appropriate alternatives.
